Catawba College is like no other institution. Its small class sizes, quality professors, and strong community ties foster an environment of learning and growth for all attending students. This is true for students as exceptional as Casey Whitt. A junior, double-majoring in Popular Music and Worship Arts, Whitt has loved singing since she was a child incorporating her life and Christian faith into the music she writes and records. Accompanied with her charm and bubbly personality, Whitt possess an unforgettable voice that will leave you at a loss for words – and Kleenex. It is through her music that she finds purpose, and her faith that drives her to keep pushing towards her dreams. Yes, Casey Whitt is like no other and we’re quite happy about that.

Growing up in a musical household, Whitt was exposed to a number of genres that have allowed her to broaden her perspective and give her versatility as an artist. When discussing her family’s background in music, Whitt said, “Everyone on my dad’s side of the family can either play an instrument or sing.” She smiled as she spoke of her grandfather getting her started as a performer traveling with his bluegrass-gospel band around the local counties when she was just a child. Her favorite genres range from traditional and modern rock to contemporary Christian music with her sound incorporating styles of pop, rock, and gospel.

Her biggest inspirations are her father, grandfather, and faith. She thanked her father for the love and support that he has shown her throughout the years. “He knows the words to all my songs,” she said and credits him for the advice he provides her regarding music. She also mentions her childhood friend and fellow Catawban, Damon Atkins who encouraged her to audition for our popular music program. The two decided on the school because of its acclaimed music programs in vocal and instrumental performance, songwriting, and music business. Whitt states that she is grateful for the time and experiences she has had at Catawba College and that she hopes to one day write and record in Nashville while building a family and a closer connection to God.

Casey is truly a genuine and kind person with much to offer. The stars seem to shine brightly for this North Carolina native with the down-home southern tone. Let’s hope Casey can keep her ‘Whitts’ about her as she embarks on her journey to success. Best of luck, Casey!
