On Saturday, The Center for the Environment hosted a herpetology event with a guest speaker Dr. Amanda Chunco. The event was a great success with large crowds reaching upwards of 160 eager kids ready to scour the forests looking for salamanders and frogs.

The center ran “Salamander Hunts” throughout the day allowing anybody that wanted to go out and look for salamanders in their natural habitat. One of the photos below shows a Spotted Salamander that was found in the enclosed search area.

Participants had plenty to keep them busy, with tours running late into the day and a showroom set up in the basement of the Center for the Environment. Spotted Salamanders, frogs, toads, snakes, and turtles were all caught or brought for this event.

In all the event turned out to be a smashing success, and I hope that a similar event happens sometime in the future.
