Over the past week, the Catawba College Theatre Department put on a show!

This show, “Wind in the Willows,” directed by Department Chair/Professor Chris Zink and Assistant Director student Zack Lynch, with a cast of 16 students transported all of its audience members into a world of talking animals, car-driving toads, and literally inside of a book!
The set included a giant turn table with different scenes from the book on it’s pages (artistically drawn by Guest Scenic Artist Ellen Hindman)… not to mention the pages that actually flipped,
designed by student Set Designer Allen Jones. (And if you asked the little girl next to me in the audience she would tell you that the book turning was her favorite part of the play!) Then, just like a fairy tale,

the characters began to pop out of the set and take us on a journey. There we met a rat who loved to row boats, a couple of weasles who like to get everyone into trouble, and a very energetic toad with flair for automobiles.

Dashed in are some songs accompanied by the Music Director Lauri Klaus.
These catchy tunes are little ditties that would have the audience singing along, like “Where’s Toad?!” and “The Final Countdown”.

The actors were adorned with gorgeous costumes representative of the 1850′s, designed by Erin B. Dougherty, and included various animal tails and a plethora of masks
(designed by student Shanna Locklair)!

So, if you ask this spectator, I would give it a two thumbs up and an A! Other than being called “Not Modest”, I was terribly thrilled with the production and pity those who did not get to see it!
