It’s finally time for the First Years to show us what they’ve got! Nocturne is the Blue Masque’s First Year Show. This full-length play was written by Adam Rapp, whose plays are known for leaving the audience with a sense of melancholy. Despite Nocturne’s poignant tone, it is still a play that leaves you thinking, thus making it the perfect play to launch our First Years into the incredible world of Catawba Theatre.

Nocturne is an assortment of metaphors used to tell the story of a young man who accidentally murders his own sister. Written to be narrated by one character, the play describes the grief and heartache experienced by the young man and the rest of his family.

Though Nocturne intends to have only one character speak, there can also be other mute characters that portray others in the protagonist’s life. Everything is dependant on the director’s course of action. Student director, Carrie Forster has taken 16 actors, and given them all equal parts. Each part holds extreme importance, and no one actor is less essential than the other.
