From Boys to Men: Importance of Learning

Many men of today learn the minimum that is necessary.  I will admit I do not know as much as I want to know.  I do, however, know that I am planning on learning new things throughout my lifetime.  I do know a few things I think most people today do not know, such as knowing how to play the piano.  Most men shy away from learning new things simply because they claim to not have the time.  I believe that some of them are just fearful to try something new and different from their normal behavior.

A person lives an average 80 years now and there are too many opportunities not to take advantage of.  If you live anywhere near a city there are hundreds of classes that are offered in various places.  I have always found people who knew how to do various things to be very admirable.  Also, hidden talents and skills will help you in multiple ways, such as jobs and with relationships.

One of the hardest parts of a man’s life is the inevitable “midlife crisis.”  I think one of the reasons this happens is because men get stuck in a rut.  They feel like they haven’t done anything they wanted to do during the earlier years and feel the desperation and despair.  I think this could be avoided if you were constantly learning.  If you get in the mentality of learning, you may be able to avoid it.

A huge help would be having a hobby.  I find hobbies will take up plenty of time you can continue to better yourself along with learning new techniques that have to do with the hobby.

For those of you who cannot figure out where to start or what kind of things to learn, here is a small fraction of things that I want to do throughout my life.

Learn to play the Banjo

Learn a third language

Make something out of stained glass

Learn to ballroom dance

Take a class in dessert making

These are just a few I have thought of as of now.  I feel when I continue on throughout life I will learn and want to learn various new things to help me become a more interesting person.

I am sorry that I have yet to teach you the art of stained-glass. We should work on that soon
