On March 4, at Johnson Tennis center, the Catawba mens tennis team took on Bluefield State.  The Catawba men have struggled of late losing 3-6 to a very good Mars Hill team last round.

The Indians needed a spark before heading into a very tough conference schedule, and a spark is what they got from senior captain Cyle Peterson and Co-captain Tom McCormack. The two captains led the team to a strong 6-3 win over Bluefield state.

Cyle and Tom both won their doubles matches in easy fashion with an 8-2 and 8-3 victories over there opponents. In singles, the two only lost a combined 3 games winning 6-2 6-0 and 6-1 6-0.  These two power house tennis players have to continue to lead the Indians very young tennis team if the team is going to have any success in the conference tournament.

Cyle Peterson commented about the win, “It’s always nice to win at home, but we have a long season ahead of us and we need to continue to practice hard and prepare ourselves for the conference matches ahead.”

Peterson, who had an offseason shoulder surgery, looks to be stronger than ever with his hundred mile an hour bomb of a serve and scorching backhand.

The men have a big home conference match verses Newberry this Saturday before leaving for Hilton Head for a tournament.  The men will leave Sunday and be gone for four days as they play some of the best Division II teams from all over the country.  The team would love to have as much Catawba support as possible for the Saturday matchup with conference rival Newberry.
