Catawba Lady Indians hosted SAC rival Mars Hill in a softball double header on Wednesday.  The Indians had a 4 and 4 record in the SAC conference going into this matchup. The ladies seemed very focused on these games, knowing that they would have great importance for their conference record.

The first game, the Indians looked pretty good on defense but struggled in the second inning giving up the only four runs in the game.  But, that would be enough for the Lions. They held Catawba to only three base runners in six innings.

In between games, Catawba refocused and prepared to give Mars Hill all that they had.

The game became a shoot out with Catawba’s Allie Marshall hitting a double to score one base runner. Catawba would eventually take another run that inning and have a 2-0 lead.  Mars Hill came firing back taking a 4-2 lead in the sixth.  Catawba would respond with a hot bat in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs to take the lead.  In the final inning Mars Hill had the bases loaded with two outs and were only down one run.  When Catawba’s Sam I. Santoli struck out, the last batter to end the game, the Indians won at 8-7.

The lady Indians improved their conference record to 5-5 with an overall record of 28-15.  The ladies will take the field again on Saturday where they will be playing another SAC game against Tusculum.
