The Brevard Tornadoes came to Catawba this past weekend to continue conference play. The Indians took two out of three games from Brevard to improve to 14-7 in conference, even though the Tornadoes played the Indians tough all weekend.
The Tribe didn’t start the weekend series off well when the Tornadoes jumped out to a 10-0 after the top of the 5th inning. Brevard scored three runs in the 1st, two runs in the 3rd, and five runs in the 5th. That would be all they scored for the night but it would be enough. The Indians didn’t answer until the bottom of the 5th when they were able to scratch one run, then two more in the 8th. The Indians had a three-run rally in the bottom of the 9th but they still fell short to Brevard, 10-6.
Nathan Furr started on the mound in game two and tossed five scoreless innings before having to come out due to a shoulder injury. Wil Huneycutt completed the remaining four innings giving up only one earned run and collected the win to improve to 4-1 on the year.
At the plate, the Indians went scoreless until Josh Hohn tied the game up in the 7th with a two-run homer. Brett Underwood came up in the 8th to knock in the go-ahead run. The Indians added three more insurance runs that scored on an error and a two-run double by Wade Moore to win 6-2 in game two.
Nick Lomascolo started game three for the Indians and tossed four and one-third innings allowing only three earned runs. Brett Hatley, Wesley Mister, Ross Whitley, and Travis McSweeney finished the back end of the game in relief.
The Indians trailed the Tornadoes the whole game only scoring one run in the 1st and one run in the 5th. The Tribe rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 7th to win the game 7-6. After several base-on-balls, Josh Hohn tied the game up with a two-run double in the gap. After Brett Underwood was intentionally walked to load the bases, Garrett Furr had a pinch-hit single for the walk-off win.
The Catawba hosts the visiting Carson Newman Eagles this coming weekend for senior weekend. The Indians and the Eagles are tied in conference at 14-7.
