The Catawba Indians took two out of three games from the Carson-Newman Eagles to tie for second place in conference play and improve to 34-9.
Nathan Furr has been out with a shoulder injury therefore Clay Watson got the Friday night series opener start on the mound. Watson threw 5 strong innings but the Eagles broke the game open in the 6th with the help of several costly errors by the Indians. The Indians jumped out to an early lead by putting up three runs in the 3rd but after giving up a seven spot to the Eagles, the Indians were unable to come back late in the game. The Tribe eventually fell to the Eagles 8-6 in the series opener.
Senior, Trevor Mullins, started game two on senior day and had an excellent performance to show for it. Mullins went the distance striking out 15 batters. He only allowed three runs on four hits. Mullins improves to 7-2 on the year.
After the Eagles took an early three run lead the Indians scratched two runs in the 4th with the help of a pair of errors by Carson-Newman. Catawba took the lead in the 6th when Ryan Bostian doubled in the tying run and then took the lead with three two out hits by John Neese, Zeb Link, and Brett Underwood. That was enough for the Tribe to take game two 8-3.
Nick Lomascolo took the mound for game three and tossed a complete game shutout. In seven innings he only allowed 3 hits and had 7 strike outs. Lomascolo improves to 5-2 on the year.
Offensive help in game three came from Garrett Furr and Craig Lyerly who both homered early in the game. Bostian doubled in a run in the 1st for the Indians to jump out to an early lead. RBI singles came for Neese and Josh Hohn in the fifth to solidify the lead. The Eagles eventually fell to the Indians 6-0.
