After a disappointing 4-7 season this past fall, Curtis Walker stepped into the role as Catawba’s new head football coach. Walker was the defensive coordinator at Western Carolina University last fall before taking on the job of restoring the football program to relevance. Walker is also a former four year starting, three-time All-American linebacker at Catawba from 1989-92.
“I have always had a great sense of pride about being from Catawba and coming back to take this job is a great opportunity for me,” he explained. “I have walked the same walkways as these students; I have walked down the same halls. I understand what they expect from our program. I have walked the Catawba walk.”
On his aspirations for the program, he said, “Right now, we are just trying to build on the development of our team, not just on the field, but off it as well. It is important that our men understand that everything from academics to football to their social life will balance itself out if they take care of what they are supposed to do.” By the way he speaks, Catawba football could be on the fast track to success again soon.
