The Catawba Indians volleyball team fell in their season opener against the Shippensburg Raiders on Friday night in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, and 25-21. The Indians fought hard in the loss. They started out by getting the first point of the 1st set and would get the first 5 out of 6 points. But eventually the Indians lost the 1st set 25-23.

In the 2nd set, the Indians fought hard once again but came up short losing the 2nd set 25-15. Freshman Bri Howard really stood out in the 2nd set as she had a lot of blocks and many assists. The set was dominated by Shippensburg but the Indians fought hard throughout the set.

In the 3rd set, the Indians lost again, 25-21, but this was the hardest set that they played of the whole match. They came storming back at the end of the match to try and win but it just would not happen. In the 3rd set, the Indians hard charge was led by Senior Savannah Tomlinson and also by Howard. Senior Emily Richardson and Sophomore Rachel Gallup also had good matches despite the loss.

The Indians next play in their conference opener on the road on Friday against Lenior-Rhyne at 7:00.
