Catawba’s Upsetting Tournament Loss

Hannah Davis, Writer

The slight drizzle and crisp air didn’t stop fans from whipping out their winter coats, and coming out to the first round in the women’s SAC tournament soccer game, which was sponsored by Food Lion. The game was held on the newly renovated Frock Field. The new renovations include a much needed sidewalk and a new score board.

Lincoln Memorial started very strongly by scoring within the first 3 minutes of the game. Catawba fought hard to tie the game all throughout the first half, but sadly they didn’t score until the beginning of the next half with a penalty kick shot by Anna Toole. The game remained tied until Lincoln Memorial scored on a questionable goal. This goal was made after one of Lincoln Memorial’s players collided with the Catawba goalkeeper, Bethany Davis, and knocked her out of the net while another Lincoln Memorial player scored. The referee didn’t make any call on the play and so Lincoln Memorial gained the lead again and ultimately won the game.

The team ended the season with a record of 10 wins, 8 losses and 1 tied game.  The men’s soccer team also lost in the tournament that night to Queen’s University.
