“The Vagina Monologues” Interview with Bianca Stokes

Valentines is a day for love and lovers. The day that has become commercialized; the day to dote upon the one you have given your heart to… but this past Valentines Day, there was a different mood around campus.
About the Show:
Sophomore Student, Robin Tynes, directed a showing of “The Vagina Monologues” that touched the hearts of its audience. The slogan of the show was “V-Day, Stop the Violence”. The show shone a light on some serious subjects.
All of the proceeds went to the Women of the Congo and to Salisbury Rowan’s Rape and Family Abuse Crisis Center.

Interview with Bianca Stokes (Actor) 
- I wanted to do the show because I wanted to do something in the theater but not a “big” show due to time constraints lol
- Not since high school
- Woman go through a lot just because of whats between their legs. We as females should embrace our femininity and not be ashamed to express how we feel about certain things.
- I think some of them did based on the reactions I got from persons who saw the show.
- SURE!
- I think that it was a step in the right direction personally for me to explore a possible interest in doing further shows at Catawba; furthermore, I value the fact that we can do shows like this to support a cause and have as good of a turn out as we did.

The Vagina Monologues was absolutely wonderful. The stories I heard were humorous, entertaining, and sometimes hard to take, but I think it is important that they were heard. Women need to be open about themselves and embrace an understanding of their bodies and how they feel about themselves. This was a great show and everyone did an amazing job.

The Vagina Monologues were excellent. I had been dying to see this show for a number of years and it was wonderful to be able to see it right here. The cast was fabulous. The show was thought-provoking; it made me laugh and it made me cry. I truly appreciated how our donations went to help mainly local women but also a portion went to help women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As a senior, it still never fails to amaze me how much talent we have on our campus. I cannot think of any production that has ever been less than outstanding, however, the Vagina Monologues will always be one of my favorites.

I’m am so happy I was given the oppertunity to be in the Vagina Monologues. It was an experince i will never forget. My prayer is that every person took somthing away from the experience of seeing the monologues. I hope that Catawba takes on the Vagina Monologues next year and the year after because it tells an important message that needs to be heard, whether you are male or female. Thanks to everyone who came out to support V-DAY!
