Since freshman year, Abby Brown, Dana Dolbow, and I have planned to make our senior year spring break a memorable one.
Mission: complete. And we have the extra poundage to account for it.
Abby, Dana, Jen Trout, and I booked our cruise with Royal Caribbean through Expedia. We were planning to cruise the Monarch Of The Sea from Port Canaveral, FL, to Coco Cay and Nassau. Cue T-Pain’s “I’M ON A BOAT!”
The cruise was aweeeeesome. My best friend from home, Maggie, joined us with her friend, so we had a group of six girls. We all loaded onto the ship around noon on Monday, March 8th and left port for Coco Cay around 1:30 p.m. By 1, we were lazing in lounge chairs on the top deck with a summer breeze in hand. Life was good.
No, life was great.
Anyone who has been on a cruise before knows it’s impossible to avoid gaining a little weight.
We gained A LOT of weight.
Dinner was our favorite part of the entire trip, and we had hilarious foreign waiters, Reagan and Ade, who served some great meals. We ate fish. We ate pasta. We ate steak. We ate shrimp. We ate calzones. We ate chilled fruit soups. We ate fruit tarts. We ate mousse brownie sandwiches with ice cream. We ate LOTS of dinner rolls. We even tried escargot, and it was deeelicious.

Breakfast was a great meal, too. The continental hot/cold buffet was heavenly, and each morning, we had yogurt with fresh fruit and granola, made-to-order omelets, muesli, muffins, and were offered a variety of breakfast meats, waffles, and pancakes. GAH!
Did I mention the midnight buffet? Help.
If you’re thinking the amount of food we had was kind of gross, you’re right.
But here’s the thing… you pay so much money to go on a cruise. Wouldn’t it be silly not to get your money’s worth?
My problem was my “try everything” mantra. If you’ve already paid for it, a cruise buffet a great place to try something you’ve never had. This way of thinking caused me to have “a bite” of practically everything I saw, and for the most part, it was gooood!

dessert was the best!
The pizza buffet along with a soft serve ice cream machine was open all day and until 2 a.m. We hit up that pizza pretty frequently during the late afternoon, since our dinner seating wasn’t until 8:30 p.m.

this plate was for the whole group... promise!
It’s pretty funny: most people diet in preparation for a vacation. So why do we all return from vacation needing to start over from square one?
I don’t know the answer to this riddle, but all I have to say is, “Yummm.” It was worth it!

That cruise sounded so much fun!!!! I went on a cruise to Nassau and Coco Cay in 2007 and it was a remarkable experience. I believe that I did gain some weight on my cruise too because there is so much food that you can try. This story makes me want to go on another cruise…………..it seems worth it.

I think it is definitely alright to eat a lot on vacation. It is your time to get away from the real world and have fun! And we all know eating is fun. You just have to make a promise to yourself that you will hit the gym when you get back from paradise.

Every single pound was worth it!
Our motto during the cruise, “Let it sit”…meaning, we weren’t even going to try to work it off during SB. Just let it sit and get to it when we get back to NC! haha
