Kyle Kegerreis is a unique presence both on the golf course and off. Usually clad in some contorted color of pants and shirt, he stands out as a bold figure with an eccentric sense of style and a great deal of confidence on and off the course.
Fresh off of a career-low second round score of 69 last week at the TC Classic in Greeneville, Tennessee, Kegerreis helped his team finish seventh out of twelve teams. When asked what was different about the second day compared to the other tournaments, Kegerreis replied, “I stayed level and focused.”
Kyle hails from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and came to Catawba last year with many accomplishments already under his belt. He was a part of the team that won the Pennsylvania Junior Championship in 2006, won the American Junior Golf Association junior tournament in 2008, and finished second in the International Junior Golf Tour satellite at Pinecrest in 2008. Since coming to Catawba, Kegerreis has played in nine tournaments – the most of the sophomore golfers thus far. However, he is playing at a disadvantage. Kyle plays his tournaments with a bruised Achilles heel and a fractured wrist. His determination to constantly make himself better emphasizes itself when he golfs with these injuries.
Off the golf course, Kyle is very different. He is undecided in his major thus far, but wants to major in business with a focus in marketing or management. Seeming level-headed, Kyle is anything but. He is a man with a big, altruistic heart and wants nothing but the best for everyone around him. He is consistently trying to make those around him who are not having the best day feel better with his sense of humor. His heart shows in the bracelet he wears on his wrist every day. This bracelet is to remember his friend from home who passed away almost a year ago. “She made me better in golf and as a friend, and I will never forget her,” he stated. This small gleam into his big heart can make anyone easily relate to him.
At the end of the day, no matter what happens, Kyle Kegerreis will always be the laid-back guy who is always positive off the golf course, but insatiable and merciless on the green. These things will never change, but his unrelenting determination is going to be the thing that makes the difference in his golf scores from this point on.
