As the semester winds down and students begin dreading finals, they also begin thinking about the much needed break that awaits them. When residence halls close on December 7th, Catawba’s winter break begins! We interviewed students to find out what they plan to do over the break.
I will be taking Biology in the Movies as a J Term this winter break at home. I will also be preparing for next semester as an RA.
My plans for Winter Break are to go home and spend time with my friends and family, along with reading and working on my family’s cattle farm. –Katie Barbee, Junior
This year for winter break I will be spending the first week of exams down in Atlanta, GA visiting Catawba alumns and my best friends, Zach and Caitlin Roe. After a week of video gaming, the Hobbit, and goofing off, I will return home for a nice relaxing Christmas with my family and the new movie, Les Miserables. Finally, at the end of break, I will be traveling up to Wisconsin for my great-aunt’s memorial service where we will celebrate her 90 wonderful years of life. Then it’s back to school for my last semester at dear old Catawba! –Collette Riddle, Senior
For winter break I get to finally enjoy a family vacation after being busy for the last six years. I’m also continuing to volunteer as Santa Clause for kids of parents facing various addictions. –Chris Money, Sophomore
Over Christmas break, I will be spending quality time with my family, and I will be getting much needed relaxing time. I also plan on hitting the gym, and hanging out with friends. –Titus Hunt, Sophomore
Catawba Pioneer Newspaper Staff
Even the staff of the Catawba College newspaper goes on winter break. Some of our staff members share their plans for the month hiatus.
Over winter break, I love getting to return to my “old” Rowan County life. Don’t get me wrong, I love Catawba and being involved on campus, but it is so great to have a whole month where there aren’t papers and deadlines — just my family, best friends, and boyfriend. –Sydney Smith, Sophomore

For Winter Break, I’m going home, but will also be taking Dr. Wilson’s online class, “Hispanic Culture in Literature and Film.” –Megan Varandore, Junior
Whether you are spending a relaxing month at home, traveling, or taking classes during the break, enjoy the break and make the most of your time away from Catawba. Happy Holidays!
