Who Doesn’t Love Chocolate?

Valentine’s Day is coming up. Whether you love the holiday or hate it, most of us are happy about all the chocolate. If wandering down red and pink aisles full of teddy bears to get your chocolate fix doesn’t work for you, try this home (or dorm) made version instead!

You’ll need:

  • baking sheet, a try, or a pan with a flat bottom
  • large bowl
  • medium-sized microwaveable bowl
  • two spoons
  • rolling pin and plastic bag OR a food processor
  • wax or parchment paper
  • microwave
  • refrigerator


  • 8oz package cream cheese, softened (just leave it on the counter for a while)
  • package of Oreo cookies
  • a bag of chocolate chips (semisweet or milk chocolate)

Step one: filling

Open the cream cheese and put it in the large bowl. Then, place the Oreos in the food processor and turn them into Oreo crumbs. If you don’t have a food processor, put some of the cookies in the bag. Squeeze out the air before you close the bag, though. You don’t want the bag to pop and send Oreo cookies flying everywhere!

Next, obliterate the cookies with the rolling pin. If anything that resembles a cookie comes out of the bag, you didn’t crush them enough. Pour the cookie crumbs into the bowl. You’ll probably need to use one of your spoons to scrape the filling and crumbs from the inside of the bag. Repeat this process until all of the cookies are in the bowl.

Mmm, Oreo-flavored dirt.

Next, mix together the Oreos and the cream cheese. It will be a little crumbly and hard to mix at first, especially if your cream cheese is still a little firm.


Eventually, you’re going to have to put your hands in the mix. Then, the mixture will start to feel smooth. You’ll be able to work the dough into shapes with your hands when it is mixed completely.

This is important. This means something.

Step two: the coating

Now, pour the chocolate chips into your microwaveable bowl. Melt them in the microwave, about twenty seconds at a time. Stir the chocolate often so it doesn’t scorch.

Be sure to mix in the chocolate from the bottom of the bowl.

Stop when the chocolate is easy to stir, and looks smooth.

Once you're done stirring, it should look like this.

Step three: finish the candy

Cover your tray or sheet in wax paper. Next, set up your bowls so that you can easily move from the filling to the coating and the tray.


Roll a bit of the cookie mixture between your hands and make a ball.

It's like delicious Play-Dough.

Now, use two spoons to roll the cookie mixture in the chocolate. Move the ball from spoon to spoon once or twice, so that the extra chocolate stays in the bowl.

Don't let that ball get lost!

Finally, drop the ball onto the wax paper and chill in the refrigerator overnight. Now you have delicious candy!
