The Catawba Indians baseball team beat Mars Hill last Friday night, 4-1. The Indians would get off to a good start after a scoreless 1st inning for both teams when a leadoff double by Ethan Satterfield into the right center field gap and then another double in the same area by Julio Zubillaga in the 2nd inning would give them an early 1-0 lead. Catawba and Mars Hill would not score again through 3rd-5th Innings. Catawba would get runners on base during the 4th inning but failed to score any runs.

In the 6th inning, the Indians would be back in business when a leadoff walk by Paul Kronenfeld followed by a double by Keaton Hawks would give the Indians runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.  After Catawba would get the first two runners of the 6th inning in scoring position with no outs, Ethan Satterfield’s big night at the plate would continue when he hit a triple to score Kronenfeld and Hawks to make the score 3-0 Indians. Then Julio Zubillaga continued his good night at the plate with an RBI groundout to score Satterfield, making the score 4-0 Catawba.

Catawba would get some strong pitching from junior Craig Brooks as he would only allow one run over his eight innings pitched. Craig Brooks also carried a no hitter through 6 innings until a home run by Mars Hill would break it up in the 7th inning. Brooks would only allow 2 hits the whole time he was pitching and he would strikeout 11 and that would improve his overall record this season to 8-2. In the 9th inning, closer Ryan McClintock would come in and save the game for the Indians after a fly out would end the game and the Indians would win by a final of 4-1.

The Indians would sweep the weekend series with Mars Hill by defeating Mars Hill 16-8 and 9-3 on Saturday. The wins this weekend give the Indians wins in 15 of their last 17 games. The Indians next play on Tuesday night on the road against Winston Salem State at 6 P.M. at BB&T Park in Winston Salem. The Indians overall record is now 24-13 and their conference record is now 16-6 after this weekend’s sweep of Mars Hill.
