SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College student, Darryl Bell is releasing his new single, “Hate That I Love You” online on Friday, September 2. Composed by Bell and produced by friend and fellow Catawban, Chris Averill, the song serves as the singer’s first release as a professional artist.

“The song talks about being aggravated with your partner and through my experience seeing multiple couples go through complications,” said Bell. It was during this time that Darryl was in a complicated relationship himself that he was inspired to write this personal song. He explains, “I wanted to help people get out of those situations and dance,” noting that individuals begin to lose themselves to people that do not deserve them.
His musical partner and friend, Chris Averill is equally excited about the release stating that it is different from anything he has ever produced in the past. “We played the song live once and I took the initiative to produce the track. It really had a different vibe. It evolved over the course of a year and sounds really fun and upbeat.”

The two decided to cross into commercial territories by incorporating Darryl’s signature R&B sound with some added “pop sprinkle.” The two are extremely proud of their creation and cannot wait to share it with the world and of course – the Catawba community.
When asked about the possibility of releasing a full body of work, Bell stated that it was a work in progress and that everything will come in due time. So even though we must wait for a full track list, at least we get a taste of what this soulful R&B crooner has been cooking! Catawba has certainly found some of its finest in Darryl Bell and Chris Averill. You go fellas!
