Despite the recent hustle and bustle of the Autumn season, many visitors flocked to the Rowan County fair off of Julian Road last week to have a great time. The fair did not disappoint by any means. With new and improved rides, numerous food vendors, and plenty of games to entertain, the event has been regarded as one of the best fairs Rowan County has had to date.

Upon arrival at the fair, visitors were exposed to vendors representing noble causes and businesses that were set up in the exhibit hall. This ranged between booths for Fire Departments, Haunted Trails, and even representatives for the local Republican and Democratic parties, stationed fittingly across from one another. Out in the open were vendors selling tasty Ribbon Fries, Pizza, Elephant Ears, Funnel Cakes, and even strange food such as fried oreos and twinkies.

The livestock from area farms greeted you with sounds and smells alike as the petting zoo was a popular attraction. Despite the common theory that the carnival games at the fair are “rigged,” the game vendors were actually very friendly and it was very easy to obtain prizes for many. As previously mentioned, new rides at the fair beckoned potential riders to obtain a thrill as they climbed aboard. One of these rides was an extremely tall Ferris Wheel which allowed for a widespread view of Rowan County countryside.

Inside of another exhibit hall sat displays of various crafts, crops, and ideas that represented the result of hard work put in by the creators of this collection. A select few of these items proudly sported a Blue Ribbon, and some items even received the coveted “Best of Show” status.

Security was handled by the Rowan County Sherriff’s Department, coordinated by Rowan County Sherriff and Catawba Alumnus, Kevin Auten. Parking was handled by numerous volunteers representing local organizations. All in all, it is quite obvious to say that this year’s Rowan County fair was by far a huge success, and was a great time for riding rides, eating fair food, and socializing with others who shared the enjoyment of the event.

Soon enough, we all will be singing “Jingle Bells” and decorating Christmas trees, preparing for the next holiday season. But right now, we are immersed in a cool, crisp, autumn season filled with things like leaves and Halloween. And what better way to begin this season with an incredibly amusing (and fun) Rowan County Fair.
