Having a close family-oriented student body is what Catawba College is known for. The student body has maintained this title for generations, and the reasons are the student life events that take place on campus. These events give students the opportunity to mingle among their peers and enjoy the true college experience. After all, they do say that some of your closest friends for life are made in college.

On Saturday April 9th 2016 the Philomethian society held its annual Philo Blackout in the Catawba College Dining hall, located in the Cannon Student center on campus. This event has been a very popular one for Catawba students as it gives you the opportunity to take a break from studying, and show your best dance moves on the floor music blasting from the DJ and bright LED’s circling around the room. Each member of Philo is there to set up and hype up the festivities for students who attend. The event was catered from Chartwells Dining Services with plenty of food options available. Dancing too hard can surely help someone work up an appetite. The advisor and head of the Philomethian society, Dr. Clapp, was also on sight to help the experience run as smoothly as possible. For many students, this was surely a fun night to remember.
